Ladies, and gentlemen, it’s that time of year again. All over the city, you will find yourself surrounded by hundreds of Burt Reynolds stunt doubles, some a little more convincing than others. “Movember” is all about growing out that upper lip fuzz to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer, and has raised millions of dollars all over the world.
Now, when it comes to the official rules of Movember, there is no messing around, it is a very strict list of rules that a lot of men have overlooked while “competing”. While it is encouraged to let that upper lip have all natural reign over the month of November, it’s important to keep that surrounding area clean cut, to extenuate that glorious lip tickler.
Now, as a barber, I understand a lot of men have issues with shaving their face frequently due to several issues, which include razor burn, sensitive skin, or cost of shaving cartridges, but with some insider secrets, these problems will disappear faster than your girlfriend’s attraction to you over November.
Let’s start with the number one complaint that I receive from men who come into the barber shop:
Razor burn:
This is caused by not having your face fully warmed up, as well as not preparing your beard/stubble before you shave. Try and focus on shaving either directly out of the shower, or if you don’t have time to shower, simply hold a warm facecloth against your beard for about a minute, making sure the towel stays warm. What this does is softens the beard to allow the razor to smoothly run over the skin, oppose to pulling and tugging at the hair when the face isn’t the right temperature.
This leads us to the number two complaint:
Sensitive skin:
This can be solved by using a pre-shave oil before you run those blades across your skin, after all, there is nothing more irritating for your skin than trying to cut while your skin isn’t hydrated and moisturized. The OM 3-in-1 shave balm will be the best weapon in your arsenal for this problem. This product will prepare your skin for the shave, keep it pull free throughout the shave, as well as moisturize after you’re finished to reduce any inflammation. By introducing these two new shaving techniques, you will find your skin will be healthier and even more important, happier. Keep the mo’s growing gents.
